Officials deemed a man competent to stand trial on Tuesday for the murder of his mother.
Connor Crumrine , 24, was arrested after investigators said he stabbed his mother, Jennifer Crumrine, at their Port Charlotte home in 2023.
Connor was previously declared incompetent to stand trial after being evaluated by two doctors in the summer of 2024.
One doctor suggested he might've had bipolar disorder, and the other noted a possible schizophrenia diagnosis.
Crumrine, however, denied having any mental illness.
He wrote the judge a letter before the hearing held in December, asking for things to progress in his case as quickly as possible "so he can return to work."
According to court documents, a written report from the State Forensic Facility, dated Dec. 6, 2024, was considered. However, neither the state nor the defense objected to the findings of the licensed psychologist. Now, Connor is deemed competent to stand trial.
Crumrine's next hearing is scheduled for Feb. 26.
