A precautionary boil water notice was issued Thursday for water utility customers in the city of Punta Gorda.
According to city officials, all residents and businesses in the city's utility service area, inside and outside of city limits, are included.
The boil water notice was issued due to a low-pressure event in the city's distribution system. Officials said this is a precautionary measure to ensure the public's health and safety.
According to the city government's release, there was an increased water demand at the Bal Harbor booster station. Cold weather caused more water main breaks and storage tank depletion due to high irrigation and system stress.
Residents were advised to boil water for at least one minute before drinking, cooking or brushing their teeth until further notice.
Officials said the city is investing in water system improvements, including six water main updates, reverse osmosis water treatment plant expansion and surface water treatment plant rehabilitation.
