The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is investigating an administrative battalion chief with Estero Fire Rescue after executing a search warrant at the department’s administrative complex.
FDLE agents searched on Wednesday, focusing on Albert "Shane" Sibert, his office, district-issued equipment, and personal property. While details on what prompted the investigation remain unclear, Estero Fire Rescue confirmed that this is related to Sibert’s previous involvement with another agency—not the fire department itself.
Sibert has since been placed on administrative leave while Estero Fire conducts its own internal review.
FDLE agents also executed a search warrant at a home in North Fort Myers on Everson Miles Circle. According to Lee County property records, that home belongs to Sibert.
“The search warrant was related to an investigation being conducted regarding the employee’s previous involvement with another agency,” Estero Fire Rescue said in a statement.
Sibert previously worked as a firefighter and EMT in Estero and also served as the program manager for the Southwest Florida Urban Search and Rescue Task Force, Florida Task Force 6.
FDLE has not released details on what led to the investigation or what agents were searching for. NBC2 has reached out to the agency for more information.
