Judge denies bail for Charlotte County man accused of killing wife in front of children
A Charlotte County judge denied bail for Rogelio Prestol, who is accused of fatally shooting his wife in front of their children.
"The statements attributed to the defendant, to the family members, as well as all of those subsequent to the alleged confession to the murder," Judge Shannon McFee said.
The overwhelming evidence against Rogelio Prestol made his pretrial detention hearing a quick one.
It took about six minutes for the judge to deny the accused killer bail.
"Are they in like a separate room or ... They are here. They are actually listening to you right now," a 911 call revealed.
Rogelio told 911 that his 15-year-old son and nine-year-old daughter witnessed him shoot their mother, Jhesandra, multiple times Sunday night at their home along Holtville Ave.
"I already told my family member to take care of them because I know I'm going to go to jail," Rogelio said in the 911 call.
He told deputies he shot Jhesandra until he ran out of bullets as she tried to escape from the window.
He claimed she was cheating and wanted to divorce him.
Emotions ran high in the courtroom as Jhesandra's three brothers sat feet away from the man they once called their brother-in-law.
You could see one brother in tears, struggling to look up and make eye contact with Prestol.
"I am requesting no contact with the Martin's, the victim's family," the prosecutor said.
The judge ordered Prestol to have no contact with his children and in-laws.
