A 2-year-old girl was safely located after her mother's ex-boyfriend abducted her, prompting a multi-agency search in Fort Myers.
"I was at work, and then everybody got at the same time, and everybody was like, stop doing whatever we're doing and just to check," said Vitor Romero of Fort Myers.
The incident began with an argument at a Fort Myers apartment and ended at the Fort Myers Police Department headquarters.
"I mean, it's just a horrible situation for anybody to be in," said Michelle Vernet of Naples.
Fort Myers police said Luis Valentin was fighting with 2-year-old Camila Guzman's mother on Deleone Street.
The argument escalated, and Valentin allegedly hit the pregnant mother before taking Camila and fleeing in his car.
Detectives said Camila's mother believed Valentin took the girl to Cape Coral, prompting Cape Coral police to join the search.
However, Valentin left before Cape Coral police could arrive.
Several agencies, including the Fort Myers Police Department, Cape Coral Police Department, Lee County Sheriff's Office, Collier County Sheriff's Office and the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE), participated in the search.
The FDLE posted about the case on X at 3:59 p.m.
Eventually, Valentin contacted a family member who took the child from him and drove her to the Fort Myers Police Department headquarters.
The FDLE canceled the Amber Alert at 6:30 p.m. Monday.
"Catch him and get some justice for what he's done. Like, because it's just disgusting. I mean, people out there just running around, and they don't get caught, and they get away with what they did, that is not right. And it's not okay," Vernet said.
FMPD said Camila was OK, and EMS checked her out. Police said she is back with her mother tonight.
However, the manhunt for Valentin continues. He is looking at kidnapping and battery of a pregnant woman charges.
