Do you think there are too many storage units and car washes in Punta Gorda? That's what city leaders are discussing on Wednesday as they consider putting a stoppage on building more of these businesses.
Punta Gorda city leaders are following Cape Coral's lead, which put a moratorium on these buildings in 2024.
On Wednesday, Punta Gorda city leaders will examine some examples from Cape Coral's regulations after the city lifted its blockage of buildings in October.
In Cape Coral, their overview included building aesthetics, locations, landscaping and hours of operations for both businesses.
The regulations state that car wash locations must be at least one mile apart from each other and 500 feet away from major intersections.
They must also have equipment and systems within an enclosed building and away from residential districts.
Storage unit regulations include a maximum of ten square feet per resident and enclosed buildings are required for self-storage.
Other regulations include that site aesthetics must include parking and loading zones away from residential districts.
Punta Gorda city leaders will only be talking about this as they go over these examples and consider how many of these businesses are already in place.
