Fort Myers High School's dual-sport star Madrid Tucker is taking his talents to the Division I level, announcing his commitment on Wednesday to the University of North Carolina, where he will play under NFL legend Bill Belichick.
Surrounded by friends and family, Tucker had no shortage of options, with multiple programs vying for the three-star athlete. According to 247Sports , Tucker ranks 2,170th nationally and 262nd in Florida.
The 5-foot-9, 155-pound Fort Myers native ultimately chose the Tar Heels over West Virginia, his other finalist, which he announced last week.
Despite holding over a dozen baseball offers, Tucker is set to continue his football career at UNC as a slot receiver. Tucker becomes the third Florida native to join Belichick’s inaugural recruiting class in Chapel Hill.
The two-time All-Area first-team selection put up impressive numbers in his senior season for the Green Wave, recording 36 catches for 686 yards and eight touchdowns. He also showcased his versatility by rushing for 383 yards and five additional scores on 42 carries.
Defensively, Tucker made an impact with two interceptions, two forced fumbles and six pass breakups.
On the baseball field, he led Fort Myers with a .476 batting average, scoring 31 runs while driving in 15 with eight extra-base hits. His speed was a difference-maker, swiping 23 bases as a junior—earning him an All-Area First Team selection.
Athleticism runs in Tucker’s family. His father, Michael, played 11 seasons in Major League Baseball, while his brother, Milan, was a wide receiver at Appalachian State before transferring to Florida Atlantic for a graduate season.
With a legendary coach now at the helm, all eyes will be on the Tar Heels in 2025.
With Tucker in the mix, Belichick has landed a dynamic playmaker primed for success at the next level.
