An Immokalee man is facing 50 felony charges after being accused of possessing child sexual abuse material.
James Carter, 51, is facing 50 total charges of possession of abusive child sexual material, according to the arrest report from the Collier County Sheriff's Office.
CCSO said from Aug. 24 through May 12, the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children received two cyber tips from Snapchat and Instagram regarding suspected activity related to the possession of child pornography.
Search warrants were issued for the IP addresses, telephone numbers and email addresses connected to the account provided by Snapchat and Instagram.
Investigations revealed that all of the cyber tips they received from multiple electronic service providers were linked to Carter.
Detectives said they found 13 child pornography files, along with several files that would be considered age-difficult or child pornography, which depicted children from the age range of infancy to 16.
Additionally, the report states that there were chats between Carter and other users in which he discussed using Telegram to trade pictures and videos.
Detectives said Carter was already in jail at the time of the investigation after learning that he was booked in the Naples Jail Center on May 22, 2024.
On Oct. 16, 2024, detectives met with Carter at the Naples Jail Center. According to the arrest report, Carter did have a cellphone, but he claimed he did not know the number. Carter also told detectives he uses Facebook, Snapchat and Instagram.
After speaking with Carter, detectives requested his phone to submit for evidence.
On Nov. 4, 2024, a search warrant for Carter's cellphone was approved. CCSO reviewed the cellphone data, which they said contained over 1,000 child pornography files, as well as chats referencing "cp" which they said is short for child pornography.
Carter is now facing 50 charges of possession of child pornography in relation to 50 videos they found on his phone that displayed children between the ages of infancy and 12 years old.
