It's been months since the Shell Factory in North Fort Myers closed. Since then, some of the animals that called it home have been displaced. In Positively Gulf Coast, two of their birds have a new place to relax.
The Wonder Gardens recently welcomed Rita, the keel-billed toucan, and a Moluccan cockatoo named Dusty to their brand-new homes. Both birds came from the Shell Factory.
Neil Anderson, who is president and CEO of Wonder Gardens, said, “We're excited! We got two new aviaries. We have two birds that came from the Shell Factory, so we're able to give them a home.
Joy and Denis Franks, on behalf of the Ammerman Family Foundation, donated the necessary money for the two new aviaries located between the gator hole and the filter marsh.
