A Port Charlotte woman was arrested on Thursday in connection to an animal cruelty case dating back to 2023.
Dolores Alvaro Gaspar, 32, was arrested on Thursday and is facing an animal cruelty charge.
According to court documents, around July 18, 2023, Gaspar deprived her dog of necessary care.
Upon investigations, detectives said the dog, Bella, appeared severely matted/neglected.
Bella was taken to a veterinarian for care. Court documents said veterinary exams revealed that the dog was severely matted causing medical issues, thing and underweight, mildly anemic, skin irritation and internal parasites.
Bella is a labra-doodle mix and she has since been rehabilitated. Documents say she is of good weight and has been adopted by a loving family.
