Zoe Weber got a call on her phone from a normal number, but when she listened to the voicemail, the message was anything but normal.
This is what the voicemail said:
“Oh my God. I don’t know what number I dialed, but I just fell, and I can’t get up. Please call me back. It’s killing me. I’ve got blood coming out of my shoulder. I don’t know who this is. Please call me back as soon as you can.”
Weber didn't know who the older man calling was.
"I was really kind of shocked," Weber said. "It took me back. My heart sank into my stomach because it's like everybody's nightmare. Nobody wants to get a call like that."
She said she didn't want to be responsible if something happened to him, so she called 911 right away. They said they would step in and help.
Eventually, the Cape Coral Police Department called her back with some shocking news, saying the man wasn't actually in need of help.
"They said, 'Unfortunately, this person was making a prank call,'" Weber said. "They wanted to let me know. That way, I wasn't personally worried about this individual."
She said she was just trying to be a good Samaritan and help the man out.
Now she's left wondering why someone would do such a thing.
"You might think it's funny, but the Cape Coral Police Department and EMS don't think that this kind of stuff is funny," she said. "Especially when somebody else's life could be at risk because they're taking the time to entertain this phone call when they could be taking another call or seeing another situation that might need their attention."
