A former Florida deputy was convicted by a federal jury of violating a man’s civil rights and obstructing justice after using excessive force and falsifying a report.

The former deputy, Tyler Williams, 30, who worked for the Hendry County Sheriff’s Office, faces up to 30 years in prison.
Williams handcuffed a man and threw him to the ground, rendering him unconscious, on July 4, 2023.
He then wrote a false justification for the use of force in an official incident report. A federal grand jury indicted him on April 3.
The initial trial ended in a mistrial last November when jurors could not reach a unanimous verdict.
The conviction carries a maximum penalty of 10 years for the civil rights violation and 20 years for obstruction of justice.
His sentencing hearing has not been scheduled.
