Green powders have influencers on social media telling you it's OK to skip eating fruits and vegetables, but a nutritionist told us it's not that simple.
"Green powders are really just the hydrated fruits and vegetables that they crystallize and turn into a powder form, so they can put a lot of things in there, a lot of natural phytochemicals, antioxidants," Nutritionist Kristen Braconnier said.
If you aren't getting enough greens in your system, Braconnier said green powders can't replace eating vegetables, but they’re a good way of hitting your goals.
"I always say, if you're struggling to get that three to four servings of vegetables, which now they're saying four to five, the research is showing it can't hurt as a protective," Braconnier said.
Braconnier said green powders have a lot of benefits, from being packed with antioxidants, to improving your gut health.
"It can really cover your gut basis with hitting those prebiotics and probiotics and limit the amount of supplements you're taking," Braconnier said.
Plus, Braconnier said it’s great for your immune system. But it’s not going to make you lose a bunch of weight like influencers are promising.
"I always look at them as a glorified kind of multivitamin with some extra benefits, but knowing it's not going to be that magic pill that's going to fix everything. It's just something that you can add that can help you just be a little bit healthier," Braconnier said.
