A Naples woman was arrested Wednesday after being accused of stealing thousands of dollars worth of merchandise from Target.
Kimberly McDonnell, 36, is facing a charge of grand theft between $750-$5,000.
Detectives with the Collier County Sheriff's Office said they began investigations which revealed McDonnell stole thousands of dollars worth of merchandise by not scanning all of her items at the self-checkout.
Detectives said McDonnell made 18 trips to Target on Tarpon Bay Boulevard where she stole 151 items, totaling $3,472.02, between Nov. 30, 2024, and Feb. 2, 2025.
According to CCSO, McDonnell stole items ranging from a $2.19 bottle of Dr. Pepper to a $54.42 throw pillow, and a $5.60 box of mechanical pencils to a $795 mattress.
“Retail theft costs everyone money, and we have an obligation to do everything we can to stop these criminals,” Sheriff Rambosk said.
Detectives watched store surveillance video which they said showed McDinnell at the store's self-checkout on multiple occasions failing to scan items in her car and then leaving the store without paying for them before driving away.
“It was obvious the suspect was not scanning the items with the intention of not paying for them,” detectives said in McDonnell’s arrest report.
According to CCSO, McDonnell had a child with her on at least one of the shopping trips.
Through their investigation detectives established probable cause for McDonnell’s arrest.
Deputies located her Wednesday afternoon and took her into custody.
