A Cape Coral man is wanted after authorities say he stole valuable items from his roommate while they were out of town.
Alfred Smith, who had been out of prison for less than a year, is accused of breaking into his roommate’s locked bedroom and safe to steal jewelry and memorabilia.
According to the Cape Coral Police Department, the suspect took several pieces of jewelry that belonged to his roommate’s late wife, along with signed Rolling Stones photos.
He then sold the memorabilia at a local pawn shop for personal profit. When officers arrested him, they recovered the remaining stolen jewelry and returned it to its rightful owner.
Crime Stoppers said Smith has a history of similar offenses, with eight prior local arrests for battery, domestic violence, fraud, grand theft and failure to pay child support. He has also served time in his home state of Rhode Island.
Smith is 6 feet, 2 inches tall and weighs 195 pounds. He will be held without bond in the Lee County Jail once arrested. Anyone with information on his whereabouts is urged to contact law enforcement.
