Marco Island beaches are packed for Presidents Day weekend, with traffic, full parking lots, and crowded shorelines.
Finding a parking spot has been a challenge for many visitors.
"Well, that's the trick. The early bird gets the worm. You got to start early and get in," said seasonal resident Patrick Runte.
With the increased crowds, Marco Island police are reminding visitors to follow the rules.
"So when you travel the roadways here on Marco Island, we have pedestrians, bicyclists, low-speed vehicles and vehicles. Understanding that traffic safety is public safety. Take a few minutes. Make sure the roadway is safe before you cross or enter an intersection," said Capt. David Ennis with the Marco Island Police Department.
Glass, dogs, bikes, and fires are not allowed on the beach. A sound ordinance is in effect after 10 p.m., and parking at businesses for beach access is prohibited.
"So we ask that you park in the parking lots. There's a few along Collier Boulevard that are pay for park that are private. While parking may be available in residential swales, we ask that they read the signs," Ennis said. "Some areas are more restrictive than others. Please do not park in the roadway waiting for a spot to open."
Police are also asking visitors to clean up after themselves.
"So the city of Marco Island, as well as Collier County, has trash receptacles throughout the beach. We ask that you take your trash or place it in the receptacle, or if it won't fit, please pack and take it with you," Ennis said.
Waterways may also be busier than usual, especially with the Caxambas boat ramp opening back up on Saturday.
