A Fort Myers man is behind bars after leading police on a chase Thursday afternoon.
According to the Fort Myers Police Department, 20-year-old Curtis Buchanon was driving a stolen white Honda when he attempted to evade officers.
The pursuit ended abruptly when Buchanon crashed the stolen vehicle into a fence next to his grandmother’s house on Cox Street, located off Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard.
After the crash, Fort Myers police arrested Buchanon and transported him to the Lee County Jail. He now faces multiple charges, including fleeing from police, grand theft of a motor vehicle, and driving without a license.
This is not the first time Buchanon has been accused of stealing a car. In 2022, he was involved in another car theft incident where he crashed a stolen vehicle into a trash can and fled from officers. A judge found him guilty of a hit-and-run, a misdemeanor charge.
Buchanon is no stranger to the Fort Myers Police Department. In December 2023, officers arrested him on several warrants after discovering him hiding on his grandmother’s roof.
