A Fort Myers man with multiple DUI convictions is wanted after violating his probation following his third impaired driving arrest.
Donald Beckstead, 45, is accused of driving drunk in the middle of the day, crashing through a parking lot gate, then passing out behind the wheel with the engine still running.
According to the Fort Myers Police Department, witnesses called authorities after the crash outside a downtown high-rise.
Officers who arrived at the scene reported a strong smell of alcohol on the man’s breath, slurred speech and incoherent rambling. During questioning, he repeatedly told a female officer that he loved her.
After failing a field sobriety test, he was arrested. A search of his vehicle uncovered two open bottles of Captain Morgan rum and two empty bottles of Tito’s vodka.
Officials later confirmed that he was supposed to have an interlock device installed in his vehicle but had not complied.
The Department of Corrections is now recommending 364 days in jail following his latest probation violation. Authorities urge anyone with information on his whereabouts to contact law enforcement.
