The Flagler County Sheriff's Office spent hours searching for a missing plane that went down in after it lost contact with the Palatka Municipal Airport.
Deputies said the plane did not arrive as scheduled.
A little after 8:15 a.m. Saturday, deputies said after an extensive search with the assistance of the Volusia Sheriff's Office helicopter the missing plane was located in a remote, very dense wooded area of Flagler County near the Volusia County line.
The sheriff's office told the community law enforcement officers will still be on State Road 11 in Bunnell as the investigation and recovery continues.
WESH 2 received a statement from company that owns the plane.
Rook Nelson, the president of Eagle Air Transport, said, "We became aware around 8 p.m. last night that there was an incident involving one of our aircraft. Around 6 p.m., an experienced pilot departed Sebastian, FL enroute to Palatka. The aircraft did not make it to its destination for unknown reasons. We have very little information beyond this and are working with local and federal authorities in the ongoing investigation."
First Warning Meteorologist Eric Burris is a pilot and explained the conditions possibly surrounding the missing aircraft.
The National Transportation Safety Board said an investigator is expected to arrive at the scene of the crashed Cessna 208 Saturday afternoon.
