Saturday Night Live is celebrating its 50th anniversary on Sunday with a three-hour special event, marking five decades of the iconic NBC comedy series that has helped shape late-night television.
SNL alum Leslie Jones will host a one-hour red carpet pre-show at 7 p.m., setting the stage for the night’s festivities.
The special, airing live at 8 p.m., offers a star-studded lineup featuring legendary cast members, former hosts and musical guests who have all left their mark on the show.
Since its premiere on October 11, 1975, Saturday Night Live has been a launching pad for some of the biggest names in comedy. Over the years, the show has introduced audiences to comedic greats such as Bill Murray, Tina Fey, Will Ferrell and Kristen Wiig, among many others.
Created by Lorne Michaels, SNL revolutionized sketch comedy with its live format, satirical take on current events and signature mix of original characters and celebrity impersonations.
The show has won dozens of Emmy Awards and remains a cultural institution, influencing generations of comedians and entertainers.
The special event will feature appearances from SNL alums such as Adam Sandler, Eddie Murphy and Kate McKinnon, each of whom brought their own brand of comedy to the show.
In addition to past cast members, former hosts will also return to Studio 8H, including Steve Martin, one of the most frequent and beloved hosts in the show’s history. Fans can expect sketches, tributes and memorable moments that celebrate the show's rich legacy.
The celebration wouldn't be complete without a powerhouse musical lineup. Paul McCartney, who has been a frequent guest on SNL over the years, will headline the anniversary special. Other performances will include Sabrina Carpenter, Bad Bunny, and Miley Cyrus, with additional surprises.

Viewers in Southwest Florida can tune into Gulf Coast NBC at 7 p.m. for the red carpet special followed by SNL50 live at 8 p.m.
