On Presidents Day, protesters gathered outside the Lee County Courthouse in downtown Fort Myers as part of the 50501 Movement, a nationwide activist effort.
With demonstrations taking place in cities across the U.S., the movement is rallying against what activists call the antidemocratic actions of the Trump administration and figures like Elon Musk.
These demonstrations were organized by the 50501 Movement, which stands for "50 protests. 50 states. 1 movement."
The protests come after a string of executive orders signed by President Donald Trump. Activists also criticized actions taken by Tesla CEO Musk.
According to a report by National Public Radio , the group said it is not affiliated with any political party, and they described Monday's protest as a "call to action."
Leaders of the movement argue that the current administration’s policies, combined with the influence of wealthy business figures like Musk, are eroding the values they believe America was founded upon.
They see the protests as part of a larger effort to push for reforms that protect individual rights and prevent corporate interests from undermining the democratic process.
The protests and the 50501 Movement have garnered an abundance of support across social media platforms, racking up more than 102,000 members on its Reddit page .
Protests are reportedly popping up in cities across the United States, including Oklahoma City, Tampa, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Annapolis, Orlando, Cincinnati and more.
This is the second nationwide protest the 50501 Movement has organized since Feb. 5.
