The Hendry County Sheriff's Office confirmed they were assisting ICE, the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, on Wednesday morning in LaBelle.
HCSO told Gulf Coast News that they were on the scene on Garden Street, near East Cowboy Way.
A landscaping business owner told Gulf Coast News he was called to the scene because six of his workers were pulled over. Four were taken by ICE, all of which are in the country illegally, and two have been working for him for four years.
He also said he learned they have a past criminal history.
He said ICE took them to their facility in Fort Myers before they go to Miami and are sent back to their country.
Two are reportedly from Mexico and the two others are from Guatemala.
ICE said due to their operational tempo and the increased interest in their agency, they are not able to research and respond to rumors or specifics of routine daily operations.
As we know, there has been an enhanced operation to enforce United States immigration laws since President Trump took office. Just this week Immigration and Customs Enforcement said ICE has made at least 2,681 arrests since January 20th targeting migrants with criminal backgrounds.
Investigators have since cleared out. Gulf Coast News reached out to ICE as we continue working to find out what happened.
