It's no secret the population along the Gulf Coast is expanding, and for that reason - so is the Cape Coral Bridge.
Lee County officials want to make sure there is enough room for residents.
Currently, traffic is flowing smoothly but we all know how backed up it gets here and even just a bridge over at the Midpoint.
Lee County Commissioners voted on Tuesday to move forward with expanding the Cape Coral Bridge with the estimated price tag of $360 million.
The plan here is to replace both two-lane bridges with three-lane bridges to increase capacity between Cape Coral and south Fort Myers.
Crews will also build wider shoulders, work on lighting and make a new way for you to walk and bike to and from Cape Coral.
These renovations aim to provide both a smoother and safer flow for drivers and make the bridge pedestrian-friendly as well.
We can expect to see construction get started here by late 2026.
