Florida State Attorney Office documents show Fort Myers Police Lieutenant on administrative leave is accused of exposing himself in public.
Documents from the State Attorney's Office show FMPD Lt. Dion Freeman is charged with a first-degree misdemeanor of exposing himself in public.
They say it happened in January, but where or who reported it is unclear.
We first reported on Feb. 5, that Freeman was put on paid administrative leave.
Florida Southwestern State College Police Chief Jerry Connolly has worked in law enforcement for three decades. He says these investigations have two parts that happen simultaneously, the criminal and the internal investigation.
“They can work, parallel with one another,” he said. “But the internal investigation has to take a backseat with, interviewing witnesses and anybody that might be involved in the potential criminal investigation.”
Connolly has also worked in Polk County as a deputy and witnessed a handful of internal investigations.
“This could take, depending upon the nature of the investigation or the crime or the policy violation, it could take upwards to 2 to 3 years,” he said. “Potentially, based on the veracity of what's going on.”
FMPD said they won't comment until the internal investigation is complete.
