Lemon balm tea has been trending all over social media, with influencers promising you a ton of benefits, but are they true?
"Lemon balm is essential for that spa and wellness and just that relaxing atmosphere," said Joy Schwartz, who owns the Wisteria Tea Room in Fort Myers.
Schwartz said lemon balm also packs a bunch of health benefits, like being an anti-inflammatory and having antioxidant properties. Plus, has an extra benefit for women with hormone balancing.
Nutritionist Kristen Bracconnier said lemon balm can even calm the mind.
"It's a great natural remedy. A lot of the research is behind drinking it as far as like a tea version, but it's shown to possibly help with anxiety, stress, possibly depression, sleep as well," Bracconnier said.
If you're looking for something to help with weight loss, this probably isn't your cup of tea.
"It's showing that it could possibly help lower blood pressure or help control blood sugars. So, nothing weight loss related. But staying hydrated and drinking more natural items can help with our appetite and curb any cravings," Bracconnier said.
Overall, lemon balm has a lot of health benefits, but it won’t directly help you lose weight.
