A 12-year-old boy was arrested after a 13-year-old boy was accidentally shot early Thursday morning while sitting in the passenger seat of a stolen vehicle in Cape Coral, police said. Three other juveniles ran from the scene, and two were later arrested.
According to the Cape Coral Police Department, officers responded to a 911 call about a shooting near 3030 Skyline Blvd. at about 5:30 a.m. on Feb. 13.
When they arrived, they found the wounded teen, who had been shot in the back.
Crime scene tape surrounded a gray SUV in the middle of the road for hours during the investigation.
Investigators determined the vehicle had been stolen earlier in the night, along with another vehicle that contained two handguns.
One of those firearms was used in the shooting and later recovered. Police said the shooting was accidental.
The third perosn, Brennan Smith, 12, who officers say ran from the scene, was arrested on Feb. 19.
Smith is accused of firing the gun and faces multiple charges, including possession of a firearm by a minor, grand theft of a firearm, grand theft of a vehicle, and culpable negligence.
The case remains under investigation.
