Collier County deputies will have an increased presence at Pine Ridge Middle School on Thursday after a student was arrested and accused of making threats on social media.
According to the Collier County Sheriff’s Office, deputies arrested a 14-year-old girl, a student at Pine Ridge Middle, after an investigation determined she made threats against the school online.
Authorities said they found no real danger, however, the teen faces charges of making written threats to kill, do bodily harm or conduct a mass shooting, a second-degree felony.
Officials are urging parents to talk to their children about the importance of reporting potential threats.
The sheriff’s office emphasized that if students see something concerning, they should report it to law enforcement, Crime Stoppers or through the Fortify Florida app.
Fortify FL is a free app created from the Majory Stoneman Douglas Public Safety Act that allows anyone to report suspicious activity. The information is sent directly to law enforcement and the school district.
