Frustration is growing in the city of Palms, over a proposed cell tower in Fort Myers, this time at the Fort Myers Country Club.
Last month, Gulf Coast News reported on Verizon wanting to install a cell tower at the busy intersection of McGregor Boulevard and Clifford Street.
The cell tower would go right where the maintenance building is at the country club, near several holes.
Golfers are not too happy about Verizon picking the country club to build a cellphone tower to help boost internet speed in the city.
"As a golfer, I find that unfortunate because the last thing we need here is a cell tower in the middle of the golf course," said Mark Endress.
"You don't want a power plant in your backyard either," said Kari Phoenix, the Fort Myers Country Club golf director.
Phoenix told Gulf Coast News on Monday that she knows the city is growing but the tower would affect the country club dramatically.
"Where they put it, is more of a concern to when we run professional tournaments," she said.
Fort Myers City Council talked about the tower and its location on Monday, no decision was made, but they emphasized that they want the public's input on the topic. They're also seeing if the Housing Authority of the City of Fort Myers would put the tower on their new property.
"I know the city is going to try to put it in the best place for everybody concerned," Phoenix said.
