Two teens were arrested for making separate school shooting threats.
On Tuesday, the Charlotte County Sheriff's Office got a request from the Southwest Florida FBI Taskforce about allegations made via text message about a school shooting.
CCSO said Jayden Fain, a Port Charlotte High School student, was communicating with a student from a school in Pennsylvania. Detectives discovered that Fain, 18, sent multiple text messages to her, stating he was "going to shoot up the school."
According to deputies, Fain told her not to come to school for her own safety.
The Pennsylvania student tried to tell Fain to stop multiple times before she reported the threats to her mother, who then contacted local authorities.
Fain was located at his home and taken to CCSO's District Office for questioning. He was arrested and charged with sending written threats to conduct a mass shooting.
He has since bonded out, CCSO said.
According to the Charlotte County Sheriff's Office, on Wednesday, a Charlotte High School student was added to a Snapchat group chat and noticed another chat member sent a message that he was planning a school shooting.
She then told her mother about it, and her mother contacted CCSO. Detectives interviewed the student to confirm the allegations, and Paul Cruz, 18, was later located at Take-5 Oil Change on Veterans Boulevard.
He was taken to CCSO's District 3 office for questioning. Cruz was arrested for sending written threats to conduct a mass shooting and was trespassed from all Charlotte County Schools. Cruz was taken to the Juvenile Assessment Center.
