Deputies arrested five people in a retail theft operation at a Walmart on Collier Boulevard Wednesday, targeting shoplifters in an effort to curb theft in the community.
According to the Collier County Sheriff's Office, the operation took place between 2 p.m. and 9 p.m. The initiative is part of an ongoing effort to collaborate with local retailers to identify and apprehend individuals committing retail theft.
Sheriff Kevin Rambosk emphasized the importance of these operations in protecting businesses and residents. He noted that retail theft leads to increased costs for law-abiding citizens as retailers raise prices to offset losses.
Authorities urge the public to report suspicious activity by calling the sheriff’s office non-emergency number or notifying on-site loss prevention officers. In an emergency, residents should call 911.
The sheriff's office also extended its gratitude to Walmart’s loss prevention team for assisting in the arrests.
