State law enforcement agents arrested two Colombian nationals Thursday in Fort Myers on charges of drug trafficking after seizing more than a pound of pink cocaine, a dangerous street drug also known as "Tusi."
According to the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, Andres Felipe Gavira-Carvajal, 32, and Marilu Becerra Betancourt, 56, were taken into custody during an operation targeting the distribution of the synthetic drug, which is often a mixture of fentanyl, ketamine and MDMA.
Authorities described pink cocaine as an emerging and potentially deadly substance that is gaining popularity among drug users. While the exact composition varies, it frequently contains synthetic opioids that increase the risk of overdose.
Both suspects are being held on drug trafficking charges, and additional charges may be pending as the investigation continues.
