Frustration about 5G continued in Fort Myers after it was announced on Monday that a cell tower could be installed at the Fort Myers Country Club.
It's near dozens of homes and dozens of holes on the golf course.
Jim Janney lived along Hill Avenue near McGregor Boulevard in Fort Myers his whole life. He told Gulf Coast News on Thursday that the best thing about his house is it's right next to the Fort Myers Country Club.
"Special to me, played golf on it when I was a kid growing up," Janney said.
Verizon picked the location for a cell tower that would go at the maintenance building in the middle of the golf course. Golfers were upset, but Janney didn't seem to mind.
"It's the way of the future. I know the cellphones and satellite phones and all the stuff they do, that's just the way we're going to go," he said.
His next-door neighbor, Carl Sousa, says there are other places around the city to put it.
"I don't know who came up with the idea; you could put it on top of a school building, and nobody would pay any attention to it. Or you put it in center field, it near some school where there's nothing else around that would make more sense to me," Sousa said.
"It's an issue that the council is not taking lightly," said Mayor Kevin Anderson.
Anderson told Gulf Coast News that when the cell tower gets installed, you probably won't even notice it.
"I can't emphasize or stress enough, it's not the tower behind me, it's going to be something that's going to enhance a golf course. It's not going to be some ugly tower that people find offensive," Anderson said.
Because the golf course is public property, the city has a say on where the Verizon tower goes. They're also considering another location at the new housing authority on U.S. 41.
"The company may come back and say, you know what, we have another location anyway that's going to work better, but in case they don't, we're going to make sure that we put something that does is not offensive and doesn't really negatively impact the golf course," Anderson told Gulf Coast News.
Anderson added that a specific spot was selected because it would provide great coverage as the city keeps growing.
Gulf Coast News reached out to the city of Fort Myers Housing Authority Thursday afternoon.
The Fort Myers Housing Authority issued a statement which stated, "They trust the city will determine the best solution to fit the needs of the community."
It's still unclear when the tower will be installed.
