A sprinkler system failure at a Cape Coral high school caused flooding Thursday morning, leading to the evacuation of students and staff and an early dismissal.
According to Island Coast High School Principal Michelle Cort, the flooding forced everyone out of the building, but no injuries were reported.
In an email to parents, school administrators said buses were expected to arrive within 30 minutes to take students home, and parents were encouraged to pick up their children as soon as possible. All students were scheduled for dismissal at noon.
“We appreciate everyone’s patience as we work to resolve this issue,” Cort said in the message to families. “We will provide another update as soon as more information becomes available.”
School officials did not immediately provide details on what caused the sprinkler system failure or the extent of the damage. The school has not announced whether classes will resume as scheduled Friday.
