It would be difficult to live anywhere in Florida and not recognize the name John Morgan. His Morgan and Morgan Law firm is plastered on billboards as well as television and radio ads around the state, and now he's flirting with running for governor.
Morgan announced on X that he is forming a third party for voters whom he says are stuck in the middle.
FGCU student Gianna Iuhoma said forming a new party could be enticing for a lot of voters.
However, Democratic Political Consultant Cindy Banyai stressed it is a difficult undertaking.
She said creating a third party could give Democrats a better chance to win the governor's race.
“If you get a three-way race, actually, it takes a lot less to win the state. I actually think go for it John Morgan because you might actually give Democrats a chance,” Banyai stressed.
While Morgan didn’t actually say he's running for governor there is speculation he may consider leading his new party in a race for governor.
“He wouldn't have come out publicly if he wasn't serious about moving forward and taking action,” noted FGCU Political Science Professor Sandra Pavelka.
She believes Morgan could be a serious third-party contender.
“John Morgan has the fight in him. We saw what he did with medicinal marijuana,” Pavelka said.
Morgan led the charge and won the right to use marijuana medically. Earlier this week, he blamed Gov. Ron DeSantis for the state's property crisis.
Now, voters will sit back and wait to see what the “for the people” attorney does next.
“I think John Morgan has this opportunity and this is a really good time to be doing this,” Pavelka concluded.
Morgan says he's drawing up the paperwork and will announce soon the name of his new party. If he runs, he would be up against Republican Byron Donalds, who's announced he's running, and it's still rumored First Lady Casey DeSantis could jump into the race.
