Four men were arrested early Tuesday after being accused of leading deputies on a high-speed chase in a stolen truck and attempting to hide inside a business.
According to the arrest report from the Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office, a deputy was patrolling a supply business on Commerce Parkway around 1:30 a.m. when he saw a dark-colored dually truck parked behind the building and heard voices inside a fenced area.
As the deputy approached, he said the truck sped away. Another deputy spotted the vehicle minutes later speeding along Golf Course Boulevard and attempted a traffic stop.
The truck continued onto Viking Avenue and Piper Road before deputies say three people jumped out near a guardrail and ran toward a secured facility at Cheney Brothers Inc. A fourth person, Franklyn Yobak Miranda, 21, was found hiding in the truck’s bed and was immediately taken into custody at gunpoint, the report states.
Deputies set up a perimeter with help from the Punta Gorda Police Department, Florida Highway Patrol, and corrections deputies. K-9 and aviation units were also called in.
Authorities tracked the suspects into Cheney Brothers Inc.’s fenced-in property, where they were found hiding in an empty trailer.
The three men—Yudier Moysee Burgos Lopez, 28; Damian Alvarez Rodriguez, 27; and Landys Perez Medina, 35—were arrested on charges of burglary of an unoccupied structure, burglary of an unoccupied conveyance, and resisting an officer without violence.
Miranda also faces the same charges. The mugshot for Miranda is not currently available from CCSO.
None of the suspects were employees of the business where they attempted to hide, according to investigators.
The suspects were booked into the Charlotte County Jail. Their bond amounts and upcoming court dates were not immediately available.
