Deputies investigate body found in Caloosahatchee River; deemed non-suspicious death

Update : On Feb. 28, the Lee County Sheriff's Office confirmed the death to be non-suspicious, meaning criminal activity is not suspected. The case remains active at this time.



The Lee County Sheriff's Office is investigating after an older man's body was discovered in the Caloosahatchee River on Wednesday.

LCSO has taken the lead on the investigation.

The Cape Coral Police Department said their marine units are on the scene assisting. According to the alert, crews responded just before 11 a.m.

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission confirmed with Gulf Coast News that a body was discovered in the river and their crews are also assisting.

The man's body was found a few a few blocks away from the Midpoint Bridge on the Fort Myers side. Neighbors along Casa Del Rio Lane said they saw marine units basically in their backyard.

The body was recovered and brought on shore near Horton Boat Ramp, from there the it was taken to the medical examiners office.

A Gulf Coast News crew is on the scene said there are two boats currently at the Horton Boat ramp area.
