It's a big day for five Buccaneers whose dreams of becoming Division I athletes are coming true, signing their names on the dotted line on spring signing day.
"We're moving on to a new destination, a new chapter of our lives, and we're all super excited to be here," said FSW freshman Abby Toeniskoetter.
Toeniskoetter, a Florida native, and fellow volleyball player Julija Grubisic Cabo both signed to play with the reigning ASUN champion Florida Gulf Coast University. The two thrived this season on the volleyball court.
While helping the Bucs claim the program's third straight national championship, they both claimed NJCAA All-American honors and AVCA All-American honors. Cabo was named NJCAA National Player of the Year and the MVP of the national tournament. They'll be sticking together this fall too, both suiting up as Eagles.
"I get to experience a new beginning with Abby and I think being able to share all the good things that are coming towards our way with her it just makes me happy," Cabo said.
They will be joining an FSW legend who also made the short trip over to the Nest this off-season — former Bucs coach Thais Baziquetto-Allen who is taking the reins at FGCU.
"I absolutely love her," Toeniskoetter said. "I love playing for her."
"I know what she does, how she does things," Cabo said. "I'm super confident that she can do amazing things with the program."
Other Bucs who made the Division I commitment were volleyball players Nina Boledovicova, heading to Virginia Commonwealth University, and Camila Brandalise, going to Virginia Tech. Repping FSW women's basketball was Georgi Buzzetti signing with North Florida.
