A man was arrested for randomly attacking a 62-year-old woman with scissors and a wine bottle at a Fort Myers Publix, according to a Fort Myers Police Department report.
Gulf Coast News is uncovering new details of the Wednesday night incident at the Publix at 5781 Lee Boulevard.
Gabriel Solomon, 18, told an officer he had voices and thoughts in his head that told him to go find someone shopping at Publix, but to not hurt anyone.
He said he took scissors from his house and walked to Publix.
Police viewed security footage and saw the victim walking around the produce/deli section as Solomon could be seen nearby carrying items in his hand.
According to FMPD, he followed and watched her as he pretended to look at nearby items on the shelf.
Police said the video showed Solomon later raising his hand with the scissors and stabbing her in the back of her neck once. The victim grabbed her neck and retreated from Solomon as he ran.
However, Solomon then ran back at the victim with a large wine bottle, and she tried to run away. Solomon continued following her and threw the wine bottle at her face.
The report said the victim pushed the cart at Solomon and blocked the wine bottle with her hands to avoid being hit in the face.
Solomon then lunged at the victim again, although the cart was in the way. A man stepped in to tackle Solomon and kept him there until employees arrived.
After paramedics arrived to treat the woman, she told them that she did not know what happened and that she was randomly attacked. When paramedics removed the wet cloth around her neck, they noticed what looked like a puncture wound to the back of her neck.
They also noticed swelling and bruising to her left hand, the injury was on her palm just below her pinky and ring finger.
After Solomon was placed under arrest, his father flagged down an officer and told them Solomon had made friends with the wrong crowd while living in Arcadia with his mother and began having behavioral issues.
He said Solomon was sent back to live with him this year after living in Arcadia for approximately two years.
Solomon's father told police he never had mental health issues or behavioral issues until he started living with his mother. According to the report, he also said Solomon had been recently placed under a Baker Act.
Solomon was later taken to Lee County Jail and charged with attempted second-degree murder.
