We're now seeing the moments a Sanibel police officer saved a choking baby's life on Christmas Eve.
Gulf Coast News takes you through the video and spoke exclusively with the officer who saved him.
Sanibel Corporal James Serrago immediately jumps into his police car, rushing to help a choking baby. He turns into a parking lot along Periwinkle Way, next to Jerry's Foods.
When he gets there, the parents hand him their baby boy. They tell Serrago to do whatever he needs to. Serrago's training kicks in, and he slaps the baby's back over and over, while telling the baby he's OK.
The parents reveal they gave him a piece of cantaloupe that was too big, and they didn't know.
Serrago and the parents stay calm through it all.
“He’s getting air because I’m feeling his belly moving up and down," he said.
It's a day he'll never forget.
"It's emotional," Serrago said. "Even now, you can see I'm getting choked up because it was a tough day, but I'm glad I was able to be there."
