The Charlotte County Sheriff's Office is warning residents that credit card skimmers are appearing at gas stations in the area.
Deputies said residents must be extra vigilant when using card readers, especially at gas pumps, after they were made aware of some suspicious activity.
Motorists should take an extra moment to look for any signs of tampering, such as broken seals, scratches around the readers, loose components and more.
When in doubt, use cash or a different pump. CCSO asks that you let a gas station attendant know if you come across a skimmer.
