A man is accused of attempting to flee from police after crashing a pickup truck into a bail bonds office in downtown Fort Myers.
The Fort Myers Police Department responded to the scene at approximately 3:16 a.m. on Hendry Street near Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard in downtown Fort Myers.
The FMPD said a man, identified as Justin Roberto Avila, 31, tried to pay a witness to get him away from the scene after crashing his truck. Police said Avila is now in custody.
According to police, when officers arrived, Avila ran around the building and toward the police station, where he was apprehended. Investigators discovered he was traveling west on MLK at a high rate of speed when he lost control and hit the building.
Fort Myers fire crews said it was a single-vehicle crash, and they do not believe there were any injuries resulting from the crash.
The fire department, city engineer and public works responded to the scene, where cones were temporarily placed to block the sidewalk pending repairs.
