Naples Stormwater Beach Outfall Project construction begins Monday

Construction is underway on the Naples Stormwater Beach Outfall Project, bringing lane closures and detours to 3rd Street N as crews work to replace aging infrastructure.

Crews will be replacing pipes and inlets from 3rd Street N, between Broad Avenue N and 1st Ave. N. They will then proceed with milling and paving the roadway.

This work is all part of the Naples Stormwater Beach Outfall Project.

The city plans to remove all eight city stormwater outfall pipes from the Naples Beach that currently discharge stormwater into the Gulf.

"Those were put in many, many years ago to collect and get rid of stormwater at a time when the city wasn't developed as it is right now. So now we just need a new and improved system that will get rid of these beach outfalls and provide a more reliable pumping system," City of Naples Public Works Director Bob Middleton said.

The goal is to provide a more reliable pumping system and help better protect residents from flooding ahead of future storms.

For the next six months, crews will be working from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. before shifting work along Gulfshore Boulevard.
