Watch: Six arrested for street racing in Lee County over the weekend

The Lee County Sheriff's Office arrested six Southwest Florida residents accused of street racing over the weekend.

On Saturday, deputies were conducting a traffic stop at the intersection of Constitution Boulevard and S Tamiami Trail when they said they saw a group of BMWs speeding close to each other.

Deputies said they then saw the cars stop at the intersection of Michael G Rippe Parkway and Briarcliff Road. When the light turned green, deputies said the BMWs "aggressively accelerated" and began driving more than 90 mph, which is at least 40 over the posted 50 mph speed limit.

According to LCSO, deputies conducted a coordinated traffic stop and stopped each vehicle.

LCSO identified the drivers as Cristhaim Medina, 26, Denys Marull, 25, Joshua Kugle, 21, and Gabriel Barger, 23.

All four drivers were arrested and are facing a street racing charge along with a citation for unlawful speed.

On Sunday, deputies said they saw two cars driving across the overpass on Summerlin Road, side-by-side, and rapidly accelerating.

Deputies said they tracked one of the cars at 86 mph and the other at 70 mph in a 45 mph zone.

Both cars were pulled over, and LCSO identified those drivers as Austin Burchard, 26, and Pericles Rodrigues, 23, who were arrested and charged with racing on highways.
