The Lee County School Board is looking to fill approximately 65 bus driving positions with new incentives to attract applicants - including waiving the high school diploma requirement.
This is just one part of the short-term incentives school board members are talking about on Tuesday as they aim to recruit more school bus drivers.
As part of the initiative, the district will cover the costs of physical exams, fingerprinting, and CDL licensing, saving applicants nearly $200. Additionally, current district employees can receive a $100 referral bonus if their recommended candidate stays on for at least 30 days.
However, new hires who leave within a year will have their incentive costs deducted from their final paycheck. These incentives will remain in effect for one year.
The Lee County School Board is expected to vote yes during their meeting scheduled for Tuesday at 6 p.m.
