A multi-vehicle crash involving two semitrucks in Sarasota County has closed southbound Interstate 75 on Wednesday.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, all southbound lanes of I-75 are closed before Mile Marker 174, north of Kings Highway. The Toledo Blade Blvd. ramp is also closed.
The Florida Highway Patrol said a crane truck was driving south on the outside lane of I-75 at the same time as a tractor-trailer hauling a flatbed trailer that was also in the outside lane.
The tractor-trailer was reportedly driving at a slower speed with its hazards on. Both vehicles were driving uphill and had a clear line of sight when approaching the Yorkshire Street overpass.
FHP said the crane truck then failed to slow down before striking the rear of the trailer. The crane truck rotated and overturned onto its side, which closed all southbound lanes of travel.
Post collision, FHP said another car collided with crash debris. No life-threatening injuries were reported.
