A Fort Myers man is set to be sentenced Wednesday for his role in a 2023 DUI crash that killed a construction worker.
Montey Stahl, 33, is scheduled to appear in court at 1:30 p.m. for sentencing on a charge of vehicular manslaughter while driving under the influence.
According to the Fort Myers Police Department, officers responded to a crash at the intersection of Winkler and Cleveland Avenue around 2:15 a.m. on Oct. 9, 2023.
Officers arrived to find a white SUV wedged into the back of a dump truck. The truck's bed was raised, and its dump door was open as it actively unloaded material in a construction zone.
A construction worker was inside the truck when the SUV slammed into it from behind. The worker suffered severe head injuries and was taken to Gulf Coast Hospital, where he remained for months before succumbing to his injuries in 2024.
Officers found Stahl inside the SUV. When they approached, he regained consciousness but appeared dazed, with bloodshot eyes and slurred speech.
He was transported to Gulf Coast Hospital, where tests revealed a blood alcohol content of 0.313 - nearly four times the legal limit.
Stahl will face a judge Wednesday for sentencing. Gulf Coast News will provide updates as they become available.
