The Collier County Sheriff's Office arrested a convicted sexual predator after investigations found he was living near a playground - in violation of his residency restrictions.
Luis Antonio Chavez, 85, was arrested on a felony charge of failing to comply with Florida residency restrictions of certain sex offenses.
Deputies said Chavez is prohibited from living within 1,000 feet of a school, child-care facility, park or playground following his 2007 conviction on a charge of lewd or lascivious molestation on a victim younger than 12.
“The hardworking detectives in our Special Crimes Bureau closely monitor the sexual offenders and predators in Collier County,” Sheriff Kevin Rambosk said. “Any convicted sex offender or predator who doesn’t comply with their residency requirements will face arrest.’’
According to CCSO, Chavez got a new driver's license which listed his address on Weir Drive in Collier County. The address is located within 1,000 feet of two playgrounds, detectives said.
Detectives also discovered Chavez failed to notify authorities that he no longer works at his registered place of employment, a church.
