A man was arrested Friday after robbing a Sarasota pharmacy at gunpoint, stealing cash and prescription pills, authorities said.
According to law enforcement, the suspect, James Cook, 40, went into the Walgreens on South Tamiami Trail around 10:45 p.m. Thursday.
Armed with a handgun, he held employees and a customer at gunpoint while demanding money. After taking cash and prescription medication, he left the store.
Detectives, with assistance from multiple agencies, including North Port police, the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office, and community outreach teams, tracked Cook down and arrested him around 1 p.m. Friday.
Authorities credited the swift teamwork of law enforcement and the community’s support for the arrest.
Cook remains in custody and is facing charges related to the robbery.
