A Fort Myers man was sentenced to spend the rest of his life behind bars for crimes against a child.
Alex Francisco Velasquez was found guilty in February for engaging in an act that constitutes sexual battery upon or with a child 12 years of age or older but younger than 18 years of age by a person in a familial or custodial authority.
Velasquez was also designated as a sexual predator after his conviction.
The state attorney's office said via news release that the Lee County Sheriff's Office was contacted in August 2024 after the victim told an adult about what Velasquez did to them.
According to the state attorney's office, Velasquez performed what he called "exams" of the victim's body and was arrested after the investigation.
