Two kayakers were rescued from the Caloosahatchee River after their kayak overturned in rough waters late Monday, leaving them stranded.
According to the Fort Myers Police Department, rescuers from the police marine unit and a state maritime response squad responded to the distress call.
Strong winds of more than 23 mph created hazardous conditions that overwhelmed the kayakers. They were left stranded in deep water until rescuers reached them.
The kayakers were taken to a nearby hospital for evaluation and are expected to make a full recovery.
FMPD credited alert citizens who called 911, allowing for a quick rescue.
